How We Ship Your Plants
Ordering live plants online should feel exciting, not stressful! We only ship healthy, well-rooted trees and plants!
Beware- not all plant nurseries are the same! Others can cut corners to save money:
- We never ship bareroot plants
- We never cut roots to fit into a small box
- We always ship plants with healthy, developed roots so they establish faster at your home
- We focus on plant health first- not minimizing shipping costs
A strong root system is the foundation for long-term success, and we believe your plant should arrive ready to thrive- not struggling to recover from shortcuts.
How we Select Your Plants
Once you place your order, our nursery team selects your plant and inspects it to make sure it meets our quality standards. Every plant we ship is chosen for:
- Strong health and vibrant foliage
- A well-developed root system
- Correct sizing based on your order
We take pride in sending plants that are ready to succeed when they arrive at your home. We try our best to exceed your expectations!
Once your plants are selected, we give them a drink of water before their journey. Then, we wrap each plant's roots up in a plastic bag, so that they do not dry out during shipping.
Carefully Packed & Protected
Live plants can’t be packed like ordinary boxes, so we do it differently.
Your plant is carefully secured inside a strong shipping box to protect it while traveling. Packaging may include:
- Support materials for stability
- Protection around the pot and roots
- Reinforced boxing for added protection
For larger trees, we use oversize boxes designed to safely accommodate the size and structure of your plant during shipping.
Sometimes, you will receive multiple plants inside a box. This is helpful because it can evenly distribute the weight throughout the box, which helps keeps the plants safe and secure throughout delivery.
Fast & Reliable with FedEx
Most Nationwide Plants orders ship with FedEx. Over the years, we’ve found FedEx to be the best carrier for live plants, especially larger items, because:
- They deliver quickest across the country
- They are the most gentle with live plants
- Faster transit means less plant stress
Once your order ships, we will email you tracking information so you can follow your delivery from our nursery to your doorstep.
We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders ship the next business day, unless you request a custom shipping date.
Multiple Nursery Locations
We ship from multiple locations across the country, including both the East Coast and West Coast. This allows us to:
- Deliver faster in more regions
- Reduce time in transit for your plants
- Ship large items more efficiently

How We Measure Your Trees
We measure tree height from the soil line, not including the pot.
That means when you order a 5-6 ft. tree, you’re getting a tree that is 5-6 ft. tall above the soil, not “including the container.” This gives you a good idea of what to expect when your trees arrive, and what they will look like when they are in the ground.

After Your Plants Arrive
It’s completely normal for a plant to look slightly different after shipping. Your plant has been traveling in a box, so you may notice:
- Minor leaf drop
- Soil that shifted slightly in the pot
- Temporary drooping from being in a darker environment
In most cases, your plant perks up quickly once it’s unboxed, watered (if needed), and placed in the proper environment.
Unboxing Your Plants
When your plants arrive, we recommend:
-
Open carefully (avoid cutting into foliage)
-
Remove all packing materials
-
Check soil moisture (If the soil feels dry, give it a thorough watering)
-
Let the plant recover (Give it a little fresh air after shipping)
If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re happy to help!

We stand behind every order we ship with our 30-Day Plant Promise.
If your plant dies within 30 days of delivery, we will replace it or refund it. We’ve found that if there are ever issues, they typically show up in the first 30 days- so this guarantee gives our customers real peace of mind.

Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree: Sweet, Easy-Peel Fruit With a Long Harvest Season
Keep the citrus harvest going longer with the Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree, also known as Golden Nugget. This late-ripening mandarin produces sweet, richly flavored fruit with a bumpy rind that peels easily.
Gold Nugget mandarins usually begin ripening in spring and can hold well on the tree into summer. That means you can enjoy fresh fruit over a longer period instead of needing to pick everything at once.
Why You'll Love the Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree
Late-Ripening Fruit: Gold Nugget extends the mandarin season into spring and summer.
Sweet, Rich Flavor: The fruit is known for its full citrus taste and juicy texture.
Easy to Peel: The textured rind comes away easily for quick snacking.
Usually Seedless: Fruit normally has three or fewer seeds, though cross-pollination with other citrus may cause more seeds to form.
Self-Fertile: One tree can produce fruit on its own, so you do not need a second mandarin tree for pollination.
Long Harvest Window: Ripe fruit holds well on the tree, giving you more time to pick and enjoy it.
What Do Gold Nugget Mandarins Taste Like?
Gold Nugget mandarins have a sweet, rich flavor that makes them excellent for fresh eating.
The juicy fruit is easy to peel and simple to enjoy right off the tree. It also works well in fruit salads, desserts, drinks, and other citrus recipes.
A Late-Season Mandarin for a Longer Citrus Harvest
One of the biggest benefits of the Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree is its late harvest season.
Trees often begin producing ripe fruit around March, and the mandarins can remain in good condition on the tree well into summer. This makes Gold Nugget a smart choice if you want fresh citrus after many earlier varieties are finished.
Does Gold Nugget Mandarin Need a Pollinator?
No. Gold Nugget Mandarin is self-fertile, so one tree can produce fruit without another citrus tree nearby.
This makes it a great option for small yards, patios, and other spaces where you may only have room for one fruit tree.
Seedless Fruit Under Normal Growing Conditions
Gold Nugget mandarins are usually considered nearly seedless, often producing three or fewer seeds per fruit.
If the tree is growing near other citrus varieties and receives cross-pollination, the fruit may develop more seeds.
Where to Grow a Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree
Backyard Orchards: Add it to your citrus collection for a later harvest season.
Edible Landscapes: Grow it as an attractive fruiting tree in a sunny garden.
Patios: Gold Nugget can be grown in a large container where you can enjoy the fruit close to home.
Small Spaces: Container growing makes it easier to manage size with pruning.
Cold Climates: Grow it in a pot and move it indoors for winter when freezing temperatures arrive.
Gold Nugget Mandarin Sun and Soil Needs
Sunlight: Plant your Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree in full sun for the strongest growth, flowering, and fruit production.
Soil: Citrus trees prefer rich, well-drained soil. Avoid places where water stays around the roots for long periods.
Watering: Water deeply, then allow the upper layer of soil to begin drying before watering again. Container-grown citrus may need more frequent watering during hot weather.
Cold Protection for Gold Nugget Mandarin Trees
Gold Nugget is more frost tolerant than many mandarin varieties, but it should still be protected from freezing temperatures.
It is best suited for growing in the ground in USDA Zones 9-10. Protect the tree when temperatures are expected to drop below 32°F.
In Zones 4-8, grow Gold Nugget in a container and bring it into a bright, protected indoor space for winter.
Great for Growing in Containers
Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree grows well in large containers, making it a good choice for patios, decks, and colder climates.
Choose a pot with drainage holes and use a well-draining citrus potting mix. Container growing also makes it easier to move the tree indoors before winter weather arrives.
Stretch Your Mandarin Season Even Longer
Gold Nugget is an excellent choice for gardeners who want fresh mandarins later in the year.
For an even longer harvest, grow early-, mid-, and late-season mandarin varieties together. This can help provide fresh citrus over several months.
Sweet Citrus That Waits for You
If you want a mandarin tree with sweet easy-peel fruit, a late harvest season, self-fertile growth, and excellent fruit-holding ability, Gold Nugget Mandarin is an excellent choice.
Plant a Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree and enjoy sweet homegrown citrus long after many other mandarin varieties have finished producing.
How Your Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree Ships
Please note: Your Gold Nugget Mandarin Tree ships in a citra pot, a tall, narrow container designed to encourage roots to grow downward and help prevent root circling.
