Getting Started with Your Pre-Potted Houseplant

1. Light: Match the light to your variety. The Parlor Palm thrives in low light, and Silver Pothos handles low to moderate light. Alocasia Silver, the Split Leaf and Swiss Cheese Monsteras, and Peperomia Thailand do best in bright, indirect light. Keep all of them out of harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves.
2. Potting and Drainage: Check the bottom of your white planter before watering. If it has no drainage hole, water carefully in small amounts and never let water pool at the bottom, or lift the plant out to water it in a sink and let it drain fully before putting it back.
3. Placement: Choose a warm spot away from cold drafts, heating vents and chilly windowsills in winter. Rotate the planter every few weeks so the plant grows evenly instead of leaning toward the window. Each plant arrives ready to display, with no repotting needed.

4. Pest Monitoring: Check leaf undersides and stems every few weeks for spider mites, mealybugs and fungus gnats. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth and treat any pests with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Letting the soil dry appropriately between waterings discourages fungus gnats.

Maintenance and Long-Term Care

1. Repotting: Most pre-potted houseplants can stay in their white planter for a year or more. Repot in spring when roots start circling the pot or growing out the bottom, or when the plant dries out very quickly after watering. Move up just one pot size with fresh potting mix.

2. Troubleshooting: Yellow leaves with damp soil usually mean overwatering, especially in a planter without drainage. Brown, crispy tips point to dry air or underwatering. Leggy growth or faded leaves mean the plant needs brighter indirect light.
