How We Ship Your Plants
Ordering live plants online should feel exciting, not stressful! We only ship healthy, well-rooted trees and plants!
Beware- not all plant nurseries are the same! Others can cut corners to save money:
- We never ship bareroot plants
- We never cut roots to fit into a small box
- We always ship plants with healthy, developed roots so they establish faster at your home
- We focus on plant health first- not minimizing shipping costs
A strong root system is the foundation for long-term success, and we believe your plant should arrive ready to thrive- not struggling to recover from shortcuts.
How we Select Your Plants
Once you place your order, our nursery team selects your plant and inspects it to make sure it meets our quality standards. Every plant we ship is chosen for:
- Strong health and vibrant foliage
- A well-developed root system
- Correct sizing based on your order
We take pride in sending plants that are ready to succeed when they arrive at your home. We try our best to exceed your expectations!
Once your plants are selected, we give them a drink of water before their journey. Then, we wrap each plant's roots up in a plastic bag, so that they do not dry out during shipping.
Carefully Packed & Protected
Live plants can’t be packed like ordinary boxes, so we do it differently.
Your plant is carefully secured inside a strong shipping box to protect it while traveling. Packaging may include:
- Support materials for stability
- Protection around the pot and roots
- Reinforced boxing for added protection
For larger trees, we use oversize boxes designed to safely accommodate the size and structure of your plant during shipping.
Sometimes, you will receive multiple plants inside a box. This is helpful because it can evenly distribute the weight throughout the box, which helps keeps the plants safe and secure throughout delivery.
Fast & Reliable with FedEx
Most Nationwide Plants orders ship with FedEx. Over the years, we’ve found FedEx to be the best carrier for live plants, especially larger items, because:
- They deliver quickest across the country
- They are the most gentle with live plants
- Faster transit means less plant stress
Once your order ships, we will email you tracking information so you can follow your delivery from our nursery to your doorstep.
We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders ship the next business day, unless you request a custom shipping date.
Multiple Nursery Locations
We ship from multiple locations across the country, including both the East Coast and West Coast. This allows us to:
- Deliver faster in more regions
- Reduce time in transit for your plants
- Ship large items more efficiently

How We Measure Your Trees
We measure tree height from the soil line, not including the pot.
That means when you order a 5-6 ft. tree, you’re getting a tree that is 5-6 ft. tall above the soil, not “including the container.” This gives you a good idea of what to expect when your trees arrive, and what they will look like when they are in the ground.

After Your Plants Arrive
It’s completely normal for a plant to look slightly different after shipping. Your plant has been traveling in a box, so you may notice:
- Minor leaf drop
- Soil that shifted slightly in the pot
- Temporary drooping from being in a darker environment
In most cases, your plant perks up quickly once it’s unboxed, watered (if needed), and placed in the proper environment.
Unboxing Your Plants
When your plants arrive, we recommend:
-
Open carefully (avoid cutting into foliage)
-
Remove all packing materials
-
Check soil moisture (If the soil feels dry, give it a thorough watering)
-
Let the plant recover (Give it a little fresh air after shipping)
If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re happy to help!
Our 30-Day Plant Promise
We stand behind every order we ship with our 30-Day Plant Promise.
If your plant dies within 30 days of delivery, we will replace it or refund it. We’ve found that if there are ever issues, they typically show up in the first 30 days- so this guarantee gives our customers real peace of mind.
If anything doesn’t look right, contact us and we’ll help you troubleshoot quickly.

Description
Frantoio Olive Tree: Classic Tuscan Olive for Rich, Peppery Oil
Bring the flavor and beauty of Tuscany to your landscape with the Frantoio Olive Tree. Also known as Olea europaea ‘Frantoio’, this famous Italian olive variety is prized for making high-quality extra-virgin olive oil with a fruity, grassy, and peppery taste.
The tree is just as attractive as it is useful. Slender silver-green leaves and graceful branching give Frantoio a classic Mediterranean look, making it a beautiful choice for edible gardens, patios, courtyards, and sunny landscape beds.
Why You'll Love the Frantoio Olive Tree
Excellent for Olive Oil: Frantoio is one of the best-known Tuscan olives for making flavorful extra-virgin oil.
Fruity, Peppery Flavor: The oil is known for fresh green notes, a light bitterness, and a bold peppery finish.
Self-Fertile: One Frantoio Olive Tree can produce fruit on its own, though another compatible olive nearby may help increase the harvest.
Reliable Producer: Mature trees can produce generous crops of olives year after year with proper care.
Evergreen Beauty: Silver-green foliage adds color and texture to the landscape in every season.
Drought Tolerant Once Established: Frantoio handles hot, dry conditions well after its root system is established.
What Do Frantoio Olives Taste Like?
Frantoio olives are especially valued for the oil they produce. The oil has a fruity, grassy flavor with a light bitter note and a peppery finish.
This bold taste makes Frantoio oil a great choice for dipping bread, dressing salads, finishing vegetables, and adding fresh olive flavor to many dishes.
A Famous Tuscan Olive for Homemade Oil
The standout feature of the Frantoio Olive Tree is its oil quality. This variety has long been connected with traditional Tuscan olive oil and is widely valued for its strong flavor and good keeping quality.
For home growers who want to press their own small batches of olive oil, Frantoio is an excellent variety to grow.
Can You Eat Frantoio Olives?
Yes. While Frantoio is best known as an oil olive, the fruit can also be cured for eating.
Fresh olives should not be eaten straight from the tree because they are naturally very bitter. They need to be properly cured before serving as table olives.
Does the Frantoio Olive Tree Need a Pollinator?
Frantoio is self-fertile, which means one tree can produce olives on its own.
However, growing another compatible olive variety nearby may improve pollination and help increase fruit production.
Beautiful Silver-Green Evergreen Foliage
Frantoio is attractive even when it is not carrying fruit. Its narrow silver-green leaves create a soft, shimmering look in the landscape.
The tree also develops graceful, twisting branches as it matures, giving it the classic look people associate with old Mediterranean olive groves.
Where to Grow a Frantoio Olive Tree
Edible Landscapes: Grow it for both homegrown olives and year-round evergreen beauty.
Backyard Groves: Plant several trees together if you want a larger harvest for pressing oil.
Courtyards: Use it as a graceful Mediterranean-style accent tree.
Patios: Grow younger trees in large containers for a stylish and useful outdoor plant.
Landscape Borders: Add silver foliage and vertical structure to sunny garden beds.
Frantoio Olive Tree Sun and Soil Needs
Sunlight: Plant your Frantoio Olive Tree in full sun for the strongest growth and best fruit production.
Soil: Olive trees prefer well-drained soil and can grow well in lean or rocky ground. Avoid areas where water stays around the roots.
Watering: Water regularly while the tree is becoming established. Once mature, Frantoio becomes much more drought tolerant.
A Strong Choice for Hot, Dry Climates
Frantoio Olive Tree is well suited to places with warm, dry summers. Once established, it needs less water than many common fruit trees.
In USDA Zones 8-11, it can be grown in the ground as a long-lived landscape or orchard tree.
How Big Does a Frantoio Olive Tree Grow?
When allowed to grow naturally, Frantoio can reach about 25 to 30 feet tall over time.
Regular pruning can keep the tree smaller and make it easier to fit into courtyards, home orchards, and other spaces.
Growing Frantoio Olive in a Container
Gardeners in colder climates can grow Frantoio in a large container and move it to a protected location before hard freezes arrive.
Choose a pot with excellent drainage and enough room for the roots to grow. Container plants can also be pruned to help keep their size manageable.
A Productive Olive With Classic Mediterranean Style
If you want an olive tree with high-quality oil fruit, self-fertile growth, drought tolerance, silver evergreen foliage, and classic Tuscan character, Frantoio is an excellent choice.
Plant a Frantoio Olive Tree and enjoy beautiful evergreen foliage, homegrown olives, and the bold, peppery flavor of one of Tuscany’s most famous oil varieties.
