  3. Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks during spring and summer. Diluting to half strength is a safe approach, since too much fertilizer can burn its delicate roots. Skip feeding in fall and winter when growth naturally slows.
  4. Pest Monitoring: Check the undersides of leaves and the stem joints every few weeks for mealybugs, aphids, fungus gnats and spider mites. Spider mites like dry air, so good humidity helps prevent them. Wipe off small infestations with a damp cloth or treat with insecticidal soap.

  1. Repotting: Repot every year or two in spring when roots fill the pot or the soil dries out very quickly. Move up only one pot size, about 1 to 2 inches wider, using fresh, organic-rich, well-draining mix. Water well after repotting and keep it out of bright light for a few days.
