Houseplant Information

Your houseplant will come in a black plastic nursery pot. It will have holes at the bottom of the pot to allow for proper drainage when watered. We recommend changing the pot when your plant arrives if you plan to grow your plant indoors.

Planting & Care

Calamondin Bush Planting Instructions

Site Selection & Soil Preparation:

The Calamondin Bush thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth and fruit production. Choose a location with well-draining soil, as citrus roots are highly sensitive to soggy conditions. Slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0) is ideal.

If your soil is heavy or clay-like, amend it with compost or sand to improve drainage. Dig a hole slightly shallower than the root ball and approximately twice as wide. Position the bush so the top of the root ball sits about 1 inch above surrounding soil level to help prevent water retention around the trunk.

Spacing & Mulching:

If planting multiple Calamondin Bushes, space them 6–10 feet apart to promote healthy air circulation. After planting, apply a 2–3 inch layer of organic mulch (pine bark, straw, or wood chips) around the base, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk. Mulch helps regulate soil temperature, conserve moisture, and reduce weeds.

Watering After Planting:

Water deeply immediately after planting to settle the soil. During the first few months, maintain consistently moist but not saturated soil. Water at least once per week, increasing frequency during hot or dry conditions. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root stress.

Calamondin Bush Care Instructions

Watering During Establishment:

During the first year, water deeply once or twice per week, depending on environmental conditions. The top 2–3 inches of soil should remain lightly moist. Once established, Calamondin Bushes show moderate drought tolerance but still perform best with regular watering, especially during flowering and fruit development.

Fertilization:

Feed your Calamondin Bush with a citrus-specific fertilizer rich in nitrogen and essential micronutrients such as magnesium and iron. Apply every 6–8 weeks during the growing season (spring through summer). Proper feeding supports lush foliage, blossoms, and fruit production.

Pest & Disease Monitoring:

Calamondin Bushes may occasionally attract pests such as aphids, spider mites, or scale. Inspect leaves and stems periodically. Treat issues early using insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary. Good airflow and proper watering reduce the risk of fungal problems.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Pruning:

Prune annually in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage branching. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light shaping throughout the year is fine. Avoid excessive pruning, as citrus fruit often develops on mature wood.

Flowering & Fruit Production:

Calamondin Bushes produce fragrant white blossoms followed by small, vibrant orange fruit. With proper light and care, flowering and fruiting may occur multiple times per year. Harvest fruit once fully colored and slightly soft. Regular harvesting encourages continued production.

Cold Protection:

Calamondin Bushes are best suited for USDA Zones 9–11 outdoors but can be grown successfully in colder climates using containers. Protect from frost. In freezing conditions, cover outdoor plants or move potted bushes indoors.

Indoor & Container Gardening

Calamondin Bushes are exceptionally well suited for container growing, making them perfect for patios, balconies, and indoor environments.

• Choose a container 16–20 inches wide and deep

• Ensure excellent drainage holes

• Use a well-draining citrus potting mix

Place in a bright location with 6–8 hours of sunlight daily. Water when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry, and never allow the plant to sit in standing water.

Winter Care for Containers:

In colder regions, bring indoors before frost. Maintain indoor temperatures between 55–70°F (13–21°C). Reduce watering slightly during winter but prevent complete soil dryness. Gradually reintroduce outdoor conditions in spring.

With proper care, your Calamondin Bush will reward you with glossy foliage, fragrant blossoms, and vibrant citrus fruit for many years.

Not all Calamondin Bushes are the same. Ours are expertly grafted, which means:

More fruit, faster: low-quality citrus plants are often seed-grown, which can take years to mature and produce fruit. Our Calamondin Bushes undergo a specialized grafting process that promotes earlier fruiting, allowing you to enjoy abundant harvests this year! They've already produced fruit in our nursery!

Guaranteed fruit quality: seed-grown citrus can produce inconsistent or inferior fruit. Our grafted Calamondin Bushes are propagated from carefully selected mother stock, ensuring predictable flavor, appearance, and performance.

Healthier roots, stronger plants: We never use undersized containers, which result in root-bound plants that struggle to establish and absorb nutrients. Our Calamondin Bushes are grown in spacious containers, allowing roots to develop properly so your plant arrives healthy, vigorous, and ready to thrive.

The Calamondin Orange Bush thrives 4-11 patio / 8-11 outdoors.

Description

Calamondin Bush – Easy to Grow Indoor Citrus

Looking for a beautiful, fruiting citrus plant that’s both ornamental and productive? The Calamondin Bush is one of the most versatile and rewarding citrus plants you can grow at home.

Before buying citrus online, it’s important to understand that not all citrus plants are created equal. Many low-cost options are seed-grown, which can take years to mature and often produce inconsistent results.

Our Calamondin Bushes are expertly grafted, making them superior because:

Earlier fruiting, faster results:
Seed-grown citrus can take many years to produce fruit. Our Calamondin Bushes are grafted onto strong, mature rootstock, encouraging earlier flowering and fruiting so you can enjoy citrus much sooner.

Consistent, true-to-type fruit:
Plants grown from seed may produce unpredictable fruit quality. Our grafted Calamondin Bushes are propagated from proven mother plants, ensuring reliable flavor, size, and performance.

Stronger, more resilient plants:
The premium rootstock used for grafting is selected for vigor and durability, resulting in a tougher plant better equipped to handle environmental stress.

Heavily branched for better production:
More branching means more potential flowering points. Our bushes are grown and trained for structure, fullness, and enhanced fruiting potential.

A Stunning Ornamental Citrus

The Calamondin Bush is prized for its glossy evergreen foliage, fragrant white blossoms, and vibrant orange fruit. It delivers year-round beauty while also producing small, tangy citrus perfect for culinary use.

Unlike large citrus trees, this naturally compact variety fits beautifully into:

• Patios
• Balconies
• Entryways
• Kitchens
• Bright indoor spaces

Its elegant form makes it both a decorative accent and a conversation piece.

Delicious, Tangy Fruit

Calamondin fruit is known for its bold citrus aroma and bright, tart flavor. The thin-skinned fruit can be used for:

• Drinks & cocktails
• Cooking & marinades
• Marmalades
• Garnishes

Even when not harvested, the colorful fruit adds incredible visual appeal.

Fragrant Blossoms

When in bloom, your Calamondin Bush produces intensely fragrant white flowers that fill the surrounding space with a fresh citrus scent — one of the most loved features of this variety.

Ideal for Indoor & Container Growing

The Calamondin Bush thrives in containers, making it perfect for growers in cooler climates.

Perfect for pots:
Easily move indoors during winter and outdoors in warm seasons.

Self-pollinating:
Only one plant is needed to produce fruit.

Excellent indoor performance:
Flourishes near bright windows or under grow lights.
