How We Ship Your Plants
Ordering live plants online should feel exciting, not stressful! We only ship healthy, well-rooted trees and plants!
Beware- not all plant nurseries are the same! Others can cut corners to save money:
- We never ship bareroot plants
- We never cut roots to fit into a small box
- We always ship plants with healthy, developed roots so they establish faster at your home
- We focus on plant health first- not minimizing shipping costs
A strong root system is the foundation for long-term success, and we believe your plant should arrive ready to thrive- not struggling to recover from shortcuts.
How we Select Your Plants
Once you place your order, our nursery team selects your plant and inspects it to make sure it meets our quality standards. Every plant we ship is chosen for:
- Strong health and vibrant foliage
- A well-developed root system
- Correct sizing based on your order
We take pride in sending plants that are ready to succeed when they arrive at your home. We try our best to exceed your expectations!
Once your plants are selected, we give them a drink of water before their journey. Then, we wrap each plant's roots up in a plastic bag, so that they do not dry out during shipping.
Carefully Packed & Protected
Live plants can’t be packed like ordinary boxes, so we do it differently.
Your plant is carefully secured inside a strong shipping box to protect it while traveling. Packaging may include:
- Support materials for stability
- Protection around the pot and roots
- Reinforced boxing for added protection
For larger trees, we use oversize boxes designed to safely accommodate the size and structure of your plant during shipping.
Sometimes, you will receive multiple plants inside a box. This is helpful because it can evenly distribute the weight throughout the box, which helps keeps the plants safe and secure throughout delivery.
Fast & Reliable with FedEx
Most Nationwide Plants orders ship with FedEx. Over the years, we’ve found FedEx to be the best carrier for live plants, especially larger items, because:
- They deliver quickest across the country
- They are the most gentle with live plants
- Faster transit means less plant stress
Once your order ships, we will email you tracking information so you can follow your delivery from our nursery to your doorstep.
We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders ship the next business day, unless you request a custom shipping date.
Multiple Nursery Locations
We ship from multiple locations across the country, including both the East Coast and West Coast. This allows us to:
- Deliver faster in more regions
- Reduce time in transit for your plants
- Ship large items more efficiently

How We Measure Your Trees
We measure tree height from the soil line, not including the pot.
That means when you order a 5-6 ft. tree, you’re getting a tree that is 5-6 ft. tall above the soil, not “including the container.” This gives you a good idea of what to expect when your trees arrive, and what they will look like when they are in the ground.

After Your Plants Arrive
It’s completely normal for a plant to look slightly different after shipping. Your plant has been traveling in a box, so you may notice:
- Minor leaf drop
- Soil that shifted slightly in the pot
- Temporary drooping from being in a darker environment
In most cases, your plant perks up quickly once it’s unboxed, watered (if needed), and placed in the proper environment.
Unboxing Your Plants
When your plants arrive, we recommend:
-
Open carefully (avoid cutting into foliage)
-
Remove all packing materials
-
Check soil moisture (If the soil feels dry, give it a thorough watering)
-
Let the plant recover (Give it a little fresh air after shipping)
If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re happy to help!

20th Century Asian Pear: Crisp, Sweet Fruit With Beautiful Seasonal Color
Grow crisp, juicy pears right in your own backyard with the 20th Century Asian Pear, also known as Nijisseiki Asian Pear. This popular fruit tree produces round, golden-yellow pears with the crunch of an apple and the sweet, juicy flavor of a pear.
It is a great choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, and backyard gardens. You also get more than fruit. In spring, the tree fills with white flowers, and in fall, the leaves can turn rich shades of red.
Why You'll Love the 20th Century Asian Pear
Crisp, Sweet Pears: The fruit has firm, crunchy flesh with plenty of juice and a mild, sweet flavor.
Great for Fresh Eating: These pears are delicious straight from the tree and are also useful for baking, canning, freezing, and other recipes.
Beautiful Spring Flowers: Fragrant white blossoms cover the branches in spring and add beauty to your landscape.
Colorful Fall Foliage: The green leaves can change to bold red tones in fall for another season of interest.
Self-Fertile: One tree can produce fruit on its own, though planting another compatible Asian pear nearby may help increase the harvest.
Easy to Maintain: Light pruning helps keep the tree healthy, well-shaped, and productive.
Excellent Storage Life: The firm fruit keeps well when refrigerated, so you can enjoy your harvest for longer.
What Does a 20th Century Asian Pear Taste Like?
The 20th Century Asian Pear is known for its crisp texture and refreshing flavor. Unlike soft European pears, Asian pears stay firm and crunchy when ripe.
Each pear is round with smooth golden-yellow skin and juicy white flesh. The flavor is sweet, clean, and refreshing, making it an excellent fruit for snacking on warm summer days.
When Does the 20th Century Asian Pear Produce Fruit?
The tree blooms in spring and develops fruit through the growing season. The pears are usually ready to harvest in late summer, depending on your climate and growing conditions.
Young trees may begin producing fruit within a few growing seasons. As the tree becomes larger and more established, harvests can increase.
A Fruit Tree With Four-Season Beauty
This Asian pear tree looks good even when you are not harvesting fruit.
Spring: Clusters of white flowers cover the branches and help attract pollinators.
Summer: Glossy green leaves surround the growing pears and give the tree a full, healthy look.
Late Summer: Round golden pears become ready to pick and enjoy.
Fall: The foliage can change from green to bright shades of red before dropping for winter.
Does the 20th Century Asian Pear Need a Pollinator?
20th Century Asian Pear is self-fertile, which means you can get fruit from one tree. However, growing another compatible pear variety nearby can improve pollination and may lead to a larger crop.
For gardeners who have room for more than one fruit tree, adding a second Asian pear can be a great way to support heavier harvests.
How to Use 20th Century Asian Pears
These crisp pears are useful in many ways because they stay firm and juicy.
Fresh Eating: Chill them and enjoy them sliced or whole for a sweet, crunchy snack.
Baking: Their firm texture works well in pies, tarts, and other desserts.
Canning and Preserving: Use your extra harvest for homemade preserves and canned fruit.
Freezing: Save part of your crop for recipes later in the year.
Refrigerated Storage: When stored properly, Asian pears can keep for an extended period in the refrigerator.
20th Century Asian Pear Tree Care
Sunlight: Plant your Asian pear tree in a location with plenty of direct sunlight for strong growth and good fruit production.
Soil: Choose well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water stays around the roots after heavy rain.
Watering: Keep young trees watered regularly while they establish their root system. Once established, continue to provide deep watering during dry weather.
Pruning: Light yearly pruning can help improve airflow, maintain shape, and support fruit production.
