Even though Sunshine Ligustrum is low-maintenance, planting it properly will ensure the best results. Here’s how to get started:

Soil: Well-drained soil is ideal, but it adapts to clay, sand, or loam.

Site Selection and Soil Preparation:
Sunshine Ligustrum thrives in full sun, so choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. It tolerates a wide range of soils, from clay to sandy soils, but prefers well-draining soil. Amend heavy clay soils with organic matter such as compost to improve drainage.
Planting:

Digging the Hole: Dig a hole that is twice as wide but only slightly shallower than the root ball. This encourages roots to spread outwards rather than downwards.
Mound Technique: Create a small mound of soil at the bottom of the hole so that when the plant is placed, the top of the root ball sits about 1 inch above ground level. This prevents water from pooling around the base of the plant, which can cause root rot.
Backfilling: Fill in the hole around the root ball, tamping the soil down gently as you go to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant well after planting to help the soil settle.
