How We Ship Your Plants
Ordering live plants online should feel exciting, not stressful! We only ship healthy, well-rooted trees and plants!
Beware- not all plant nurseries are the same! Others can cut corners to save money:
- We never ship bareroot plants
- We never cut roots to fit into a small box
- We always ship plants with healthy, developed roots so they establish faster at your home
- We focus on plant health first- not minimizing shipping costs
A strong root system is the foundation for long-term success, and we believe your plant should arrive ready to thrive- not struggling to recover from shortcuts.
How we Select Your Plants
Once you place your order, our nursery team selects your plant and inspects it to make sure it meets our quality standards. Every plant we ship is chosen for:
- Strong health and vibrant foliage
- A well-developed root system
- Correct sizing based on your order
We take pride in sending plants that are ready to succeed when they arrive at your home. We try our best to exceed your expectations!
Once your plants are selected, we give them a drink of water before their journey. Then, we wrap each plant's roots up in a plastic bag, so that they do not dry out during shipping.
Carefully Packed & Protected
Live plants can’t be packed like ordinary boxes, so we do it differently.
Your plant is carefully secured inside a strong shipping box to protect it while traveling. Packaging may include:
- Support materials for stability
- Protection around the pot and roots
- Reinforced boxing for added protection
For larger trees, we use oversize boxes designed to safely accommodate the size and structure of your plant during shipping.
Sometimes, you will receive multiple plants inside a box. This is helpful because it can evenly distribute the weight throughout the box, which helps keeps the plants safe and secure throughout delivery.
Fast & Reliable with FedEx
Most Nationwide Plants orders ship with FedEx. Over the years, we’ve found FedEx to be the best carrier for live plants, especially larger items, because:
- They deliver quickest across the country
- They are the most gentle with live plants
- Faster transit means less plant stress
Once your order ships, we will email you tracking information so you can follow your delivery from our nursery to your doorstep.
We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders ship the next business day, unless you request a custom shipping date.
Multiple Nursery Locations
We ship from multiple locations across the country, including both the East Coast and West Coast. This allows us to:
- Deliver faster in more regions
- Reduce time in transit for your plants
- Ship large items more efficiently

How We Measure Your Trees
We measure tree height from the soil line, not including the pot.
That means when you order a 5-6 ft. tree, you’re getting a tree that is 5-6 ft. tall above the soil, not “including the container.” This gives you a good idea of what to expect when your trees arrive, and what they will look like when they are in the ground.

After Your Plants Arrive
It’s completely normal for a plant to look slightly different after shipping. Your plant has been traveling in a box, so you may notice:
- Minor leaf drop
- Soil that shifted slightly in the pot
- Temporary drooping from being in a darker environment
In most cases, your plant perks up quickly once it’s unboxed, watered (if needed), and placed in the proper environment.
Unboxing Your Plants
When your plants arrive, we recommend:
-
Open carefully (avoid cutting into foliage)
-
Remove all packing materials
-
Check soil moisture (If the soil feels dry, give it a thorough watering)
-
Let the plant recover (Give it a little fresh air after shipping)
If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re happy to help!
Our 30-Day Plant Promise
We stand behind every order we ship with our 30-Day Plant Promise.
If your plant dies within 30 days of delivery, we will replace it or refund it. We’ve found that if there are ever issues, they typically show up in the first 30 days- so this guarantee gives our customers real peace of mind.
If anything doesn’t look right, contact us and we’ll help you troubleshoot quickly.

Elevate Your Shade Garden with the June Hosta
If you’re looking to transform your shaded garden spaces with an easy-care, vibrant, and highly rewarding perennial, June Hosta should be at the top of your list. With its striking color contrasts, dependable growth habit, and exceptional versatility, this Hosta offers beauty, texture, and elegance to any landscape. Whether you're a beginner gardener or a seasoned plant enthusiast, adding June Hosta to your outdoor space is a decision you won't regret.
Hostas are known for their lush foliage and shade tolerance, but June Hosta stands out for its unique coloration, resilience, and overall garden impact. Its ability to brighten even the darkest corners of your garden, coupled with its minimal maintenance needs, makes it a go-to choice for many gardeners.
Plant Highlights: Why June Hosta is a Must-Have
- Award-Winning Beauty: Winner of the prestigious Hosta of the Year Award from the American Hosta Growers Association, a testament to its garden performance and visual appeal.
- Stunning Variegation: Brilliant chartreuse centers with blue-green margins provide a dynamic color contrast that changes with light exposure.
- Sun-Tolerant for a Hosta: Unlike many hostas, June tolerates more morning sun, which can enhance its vivid coloration.
- Compact Growth Habit: Perfect for smaller spaces, containers, or borders with a mature height of about 12-16 inches and a spread of 16-20 inches.
- Low-Maintenance, High Impact: Requires little attention to thrive, making it ideal for busy gardeners.
- Deer Resistant: While no plant is completely deer-proof, June Hosta is less favored by deer compared to other perennials.
- Long-Lived and Hardy: Extremely cold-hardy (USDA zones 3-8), capable of coming back stronger year after year.
Transform Your Garden with the Color and Texture of June Hosta
June Hosta brings a pop of color that other shade perennials often can’t match. Its leaves are thick and slightly corrugated, adding textural interest that makes the plant feel lush and full. The heart-shaped leaves have a glowing golden center surrounded by irregular blue-green margins that intensify as the season progresses.
The plant's unique coloration evolves depending on its light exposure. In full shade, you’ll see more pronounced blue-green margins and deeper gold centers. In morning sun or filtered light, the centers can take on an almost neon chartreuse glow that brightens shaded areas.
You’ll also enjoy delicate lavender blooms that rise above the foliage in early to midsummer. These bell-shaped flowers attract hummingbirds and pollinators, offering an extra layer of garden interest.
Why June Hosta is Different from Other Hostas
While many hostas offer great foliage and shade tolerance, June differentiates itself with its adaptable coloration and compact size. Some hostas can fade or scorch when exposed to even partial sun, but June is surprisingly sun-tolerant—especially in cooler climates or when exposed to gentle morning light.
Additionally, the thicker leaves of June Hosta make it less prone to slug damage, a common concern with thinner-leaved hostas. Its dense clumping habit also keeps it looking neat and tidy without the need for regular maintenance or division for many years.
If you’ve grown traditional green or blue hostas and are looking for something that makes a bold yet sophisticated statement, June Hosta offers a refreshing change.
How June Hosta Enhances Your Landscape
- Brightens Shaded Areas: The glowing foliage provides a lively contrast against darker greens and shadowed spaces.
- Perfect for Containers: Its compact growth makes it an ideal candidate for container planting, which can be moved to patios, decks, or shaded entryways.
- Great Companion Plant: Pairs well with ferns, astilbe, heuchera, and other shade-loving plants for a layered, textured look.
- Low-Maintenance Ground Cover: As it matures, June forms a dense clump that can suppress weeds and fill in shady beds effortlessly.
- Season-Long Interest: From its emerging spring foliage to its colorful leaves in summer and its late-season flowers, June Hosta adds interest all season long.
How to Care for Your June Hosta
One of the greatest strengths of June Hosta is its ease of care. Whether you’re planting directly in your garden beds or designing a shaded container garden, the following tips will help your June thrive:
Light Requirements
- Shade to Partial Shade: Performs best in full shade to partial shade. Morning sun is beneficial for enhancing foliage color, but avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can cause leaf scorch in hotter climates.
Soil Conditions
- Rich, Moist, Well-Draining Soil: Prefers soil that retains moisture but doesn't stay soggy. Amend your garden soil with compost or organic matter to improve richness and drainage.
Watering
- Consistent Moisture: Water regularly, especially during dry periods. While established plants are fairly drought-tolerant, consistent moisture encourages lush growth and better coloring.
Fertilizing
- Balanced Fertilizer in Spring: Apply a slow-release balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Over-fertilizing is unnecessary and can lead to leaf burn.
Mulching
- Maintain Soil Moisture: Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and minimize weeds.
Maintenance
- Minimal Pruning: Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves as needed. In fall, cut back foliage after the first frost when it begins to die back.
Dividing
- Divide Every Few Years: While June doesn’t require frequent division, you can divide clumps every 3-5 years to rejuvenate plants or spread them to other parts of your garden.
