How We Ship Your Plants
Ordering live plants online should feel exciting, not stressful! We only ship healthy, well-rooted trees and plants!
Beware- not all plant nurseries are the same! Others can cut corners to save money:
- We never ship bareroot plants
- We never cut roots to fit into a small box
- We always ship plants with healthy, developed roots so they establish faster at your home
- We focus on plant health first- not minimizing shipping costs
A strong root system is the foundation for long-term success, and we believe your plant should arrive ready to thrive- not struggling to recover from shortcuts.
How we Select Your Plants
Once you place your order, our nursery team selects your plant and inspects it to make sure it meets our quality standards. Every plant we ship is chosen for:
- Strong health and vibrant foliage
- A well-developed root system
- Correct sizing based on your order
We take pride in sending plants that are ready to succeed when they arrive at your home. We try our best to exceed your expectations!
Once your plants are selected, we give them a drink of water before their journey. Then, we wrap each plant's roots up in a plastic bag, so that they do not dry out during shipping.
Carefully Packed & Protected
Live plants can’t be packed like ordinary boxes, so we do it differently.
Your plant is carefully secured inside a strong shipping box to protect it while traveling. Packaging may include:
- Support materials for stability
- Protection around the pot and roots
- Reinforced boxing for added protection
For larger trees, we use oversize boxes designed to safely accommodate the size and structure of your plant during shipping.
Sometimes, you will receive multiple plants inside a box. This is helpful because it can evenly distribute the weight throughout the box, which helps keeps the plants safe and secure throughout delivery.
Fast & Reliable with FedEx
Most Nationwide Plants orders ship with FedEx. Over the years, we’ve found FedEx to be the best carrier for live plants, especially larger items, because:
- They deliver quickest across the country
- They are the most gentle with live plants
- Faster transit means less plant stress
Once your order ships, we will email you tracking information so you can follow your delivery from our nursery to your doorstep.
We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders ship the next business day, unless you request a custom shipping date.
Multiple Nursery Locations
We ship from multiple locations across the country, including both the East Coast and West Coast. This allows us to:
- Deliver faster in more regions
- Reduce time in transit for your plants
- Ship large items more efficiently

How We Measure Your Trees
We measure tree height from the soil line, not including the pot.
That means when you order a 5-6 ft. tree, you’re getting a tree that is 5-6 ft. tall above the soil, not “including the container.” This gives you a good idea of what to expect when your trees arrive, and what they will look like when they are in the ground.

After Your Plants Arrive
It’s completely normal for a plant to look slightly different after shipping. Your plant has been traveling in a box, so you may notice:
- Minor leaf drop
- Soil that shifted slightly in the pot
- Temporary drooping from being in a darker environment
In most cases, your plant perks up quickly once it’s unboxed, watered (if needed), and placed in the proper environment.
Unboxing Your Plants
When your plants arrive, we recommend:
-
Open carefully (avoid cutting into foliage)
-
Remove all packing materials
-
Check soil moisture (If the soil feels dry, give it a thorough watering)
-
Let the plant recover (Give it a little fresh air after shipping)
If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re happy to help!

We stand behind every order we ship with our 30-Day Plant Promise.

Experience the Delight of Homegrown Hardired Nectarines
Imagine stepping into your backyard on a warm summer morning and picking a sun-ripened, juicy nectarine straight from your own tree. With the Hardired Nectarine (Prunus persica 'Hardired'), this can be your reality. This exceptional fruit tree combines resilience, productivity, and delectable flavor, making it a standout choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.
What Sets Hardired Nectarine Apart?
- Cold Hardy Excellence: Developed in Harrow, Ontario, Canada, the Hardired Nectarine is renowned for its exceptional cold hardiness. It thrives in regions where other nectarine varieties might struggle, enduring temperatures as low as -30°F. This resilience makes it an ideal choice for gardeners in cooler climates.
- Early and Abundant Harvests: Unlike many fruit trees that require long, hot summers, the Hardired Nectarine ripens early, even in cooler conditions. You can look forward to harvesting generous quantities of sweet, flavorful nectarines by early August, extending your fruit-picking season.
- Disease Resistance: This variety exhibits strong resistance to common nectarine ailments, including bacterial leaf spot and brown rot. Such natural defenses reduce the need for chemical interventions, promoting a healthier garden ecosystem.
- Self-Pollinating Convenience: The Hardired Nectarine is self-fertile, meaning it doesn't require a second tree for pollination. This feature simplifies cultivation, especially in smaller gardens where space is at a premium.
Why It’s Great in Containers
- Dwarf/Semi-Dwarf Nature: Naturally compact and well-suited for pruning. It can be maintained at 5–8 feet in a container.
- Self-Pollinating: No need for a second tree to set fruit.
- Prolific and Early Fruiting: Known to produce medium to large red-blushed fruit with sweet, flavorful yellow flesh as early as its second year.
Delight in Every Bite
The Hardired Nectarine produces medium-sized fruits with a striking appearance and mouthwatering taste:
- Vibrant Appearance: Each nectarine boasts smooth skin with a 90% red blush over a yellow background, adding a splash of color to your garden and fruit basket.
- Succulent Flesh: Beneath the attractive exterior lies firm, yellow, freestone flesh. The texture is pleasingly crisp yet juicy, making it perfect for fresh eating, baking, canning, or preserving.
- Flavor Profile: These nectarines are celebrated for their sweet, rich flavor with a subtle tartness, offering a delightful balance that appeals to a wide range of palates.
Enhance Your Landscape
Beyond its fruit-bearing capabilities, the Hardired Nectarine tree adds ornamental value to your property:
- Springtime Beauty: In early spring, the tree is adorned with clusters of fragrant, pink blossoms, creating a stunning display that attracts pollinators like bees, enhancing the biodiversity of your garden.
- Attractive Foliage: The dark green leaves provide a lush, verdant canopy during the growing season, transitioning to a warm yellow in the fall, offering seasonal interest throughout the year.
Cultivation Made Simple
Growing your own Hardired Nectarine tree is a rewarding endeavor, thanks to its manageable size and straightforward care requirements:
- Compact Growth Habit: Reaching a mature height and spread of approximately 10-12 feet, this semi-dwarf variety is suitable for various garden sizes and can even be grown in large containers.
- Sun and Soil Requirements: Plant your tree in a location that receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) to ensure optimal fruit production. It thrives in well-drained, loamy soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
- Watering and Feeding: Maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during the growing season, but avoid waterlogging. A balanced fertilizer applied in early spring can support vigorous growth and bountiful fruiting.
- Pruning Practices: Annual pruning in late winter helps maintain the tree's shape, encourages healthy new growth, and improves air circulation, which can reduce disease incidence. Focus on removing dead or diseased wood and thinning out crowded branches.
Interesting Facts About Hardired Nectarine
- Canadian Roots: Introduced in 1974 by the Canadian Agricultural Research Station in Harrow, Ontario, the Hardired Nectarine was specifically bred for enhanced cold hardiness and disease resistance.
- Freestone Advantage: The term "freestone" refers to the ease with which the pit separates from the flesh, making these nectarines particularly convenient for slicing and processing.
- Versatile Usage: Beyond fresh consumption, Hardired Nectarines are excellent for baking into desserts, making jams and jellies, or even grilling for a unique culinary experience.
